About Charlottesville High School Bands
At Charlottesville High School, band is about more than learning notes, rehearsing music, and preparing for the next performance.
It is a place where students challenge themselves, discover what they are capable of, build confidence, develop leadership skills, and become part of a community.
Through concert ensembles, jazz, marching band, chamber music, solo performance, and other musical opportunities, student are encouraged to grow both as musicians and as individuals.
Music brings us together. The experiences we create together last much longer.

Our Goal
With the support of our families, school, and community, the Charlottesville High School Bands strive to create meaningful musical experiences that inspire excellence, encourage personal growth, build lasting connections, and foster a lifelong appreciation for music and the arts.
Through performances at school, throughout Charlottesville, and beyond, our students have opportunities to challenge themselves, share their talents, and experience what can happen when they come together through music.
Our Ensembles
Wind Ensemble
Wind Ensemble is Charlottesville High School's premier concert ensemble, bringing together dedicated musicians who are ready to challenge themselves and perform at an advanced level. Through demanding repertoire and a shared commitment to musical excellence, students refine their skills, grow as individual musicians, and experience the power of creating exceptional music together.
Symphonic Band
Symphonic Band brings together musicians at a variety of experience levels to build strong foundations, develop confidence, and grow together as an ensemble. Through engaging and challenging repertoire, students strengthen their performance skills, expand their musicianship, and experience the excitement and connection that come from making great music together.
Marching Band
Marching band is one of the most exciting and meaningful opportunities Charlottesville High School has to offer - a program built on excellence, pride, teamwork, and community. Together, our students create memorable performances while representing Charlottesville High School with spirit and distinction across Virginia and beyond.
Jazz Band
Jazz Band gives students the opportunity to explore the energy, creativity, and unmistakable sound of jazz. Open to saxophone, trumpet, trombone, guitar, bass, and drum set players, the ensemble explores a variety of jazz styles while developing strong musicianship, ensemble skills, and the confidence to improvise and make the music their own.
Solo & Chamber Music
Solo & Chamber Music gives students the opportunity to step into the spotlight and explore music in a more personal and collaborative way. Through individual and small-ensemble performances, students strengthen their musicianship, build confidence and independence, and develop the communication and listening skills that bring music to life.
Indoor Groups
Winter Guard brings music to life through movement, combining dance, choreography, and equipment work with flags, rifles, and sabers to create dynamic indoor performances. Competing and performing during the winter season, students develop artistry, precision, confidence, and teamwork while telling a story through movement and visual expression.
